This week on The Easy Chair, guest writer Saul Fussiner reads a moving memoir, “Going Home”. On an educational cultural heritage trip to his ancestral homeland of Poland, Saul finds himself confidante and drinking buddy to his roommate Tommy, an 87 year-old Holocaust survivor, and under the wing of Tomek, a young Polish security guard. Saul discovers revisiting the past doesn’t clarify it; instead, it adds layers of complexity. Lines of division blur and cross, with vodka, strong Turkish coffee, and friendship turning one of the most tragic chapters in human history into shared experience. It’s a great story. Tune in!
